The Jeu de Paume presents the largest exhibition devoted to photographer Frank Horvat since his death on October 21, 2020. Through 170 prints and 70 archive documents, Frank Horvat. Paris, the world, fashion focuses on the first fifteen years of an exceptional career.

Between 1950 and 1965, Horvat asserted an extraordinary personality as an author-reporter and fashion photographer. The exhibition brings a renewed vision of the work of this major player in French and European photography.

Made from the archives left by the photographer in his home-studio in Boulogne-Billancourt, the exhibition includes 170 prints and 70 period documents (publications, writings, books, contact sheets). It presents, alongside emblematic images, sets of lesser known or completely unpublished photographs. It is all the richness and the singularity of a complex and multifaceted work that is unveiled here, placed in the context of the history of the photographic image and the post-war illustrated press.

After the success of the Frank Horvat exhibition presented at the Château de Tours in the spring of 2022, the Jeu de Paume wanted to offer an enhanced version of the exhibition in Paris. Are thus presented an unpublished set of photographs as well as numerous fashion magazines, shedding particular light on the context of the creation of these images, at a time when the rise of ready-to-wear and the evolution of the status of women in society profoundly modify the canons of the genre.
